directions
My studio is in the village of West Raynham, Norfolk, close to the wild north coast, famous for its big skies, equally big sandy beaches, estuaries, creeks, saltmarshes and diverse wildlife. So why not make a day of it or even a weekend!

Leave the A1065 at East Raynham or South Raynham for West Raynham. The studio - Park View Lodge - is located in the centre of West Raynham between the village green and the red telephone box. Park on the road and walk into the gravel drive to the side of the property turning immediately left through the gate to the rear door (it will be signed with an open studio poster).

the garden

Although the garden consists of only two courtyards and a conservatory we have tried to create a flavour of going around the world. The front courtyard is mainly mediterranean with a twist of herbaceous whilst the side link and conservatory is more arid and the back courtyard tropical. It was only landscaped and planted in summer 2009 and then we had the cold winter of 2009/10. That was bad enough, but this last winter of 2010/11 the coldest for 30 years left far more damage. However the last few weeks have been kinder and the plants that did survive are now responding. We are now busy replanting and tweaking the rest and are sure there will be enough of interest for anyone visiting to enjoy. Below are a few photos taken last year to give a flavour although some of the planting design has been changed as we no longer trust our winters!

Please note there are numerous changes in levels which could be slippery if wet and some very spiky plants and a pool. Children must be accompanied at all times.

what is NOS

Norfolk Open Studios is delivered by Norfolk & Norwich Festival in partnership with Norfolk artists for the benefit of Norfolk artists. Each year for the last 15 years, hundreds of artists scattered across the county have opened up their studios, homes, garden sheds and outhouses to the public to create a unique and personal visual arts event.

The scheme gives the public a chance to meet artists in an informal setting, see and buy or commission artwork and discuss the techniques and processes used to create the work. It gives artists the chance to connect with their audience and in many cases the public can watch as they work in their studio setting.
