directions

My studio is in the village of West Raynham, Norfolk, close to the wild north coast, famous for its big skies, equally big sandy beaches, estuaries, creeks, saltmarshes and diverse wildlife. So why not make a day of it or even a weekend!

Take the A1065 from Fakenham towards Swaffham, turn right just before leaving East Raynham, signed West Raynham. Keep on this road until you reach the green, keeping to the right hand side until you reach the junction with the main village road – the studio is immediately ahead - Park View Lodge. Park on the road and walk into the gravel drive to the side of the property turning immediately left through the gate to the rear door (it will be signed with an open studio poster).

you can also use the following information to plan your journey:

| what is NOS

Norfolk Open Studios is delivered by Norfolk & Norwich Festival in partnership with Norfolk artists for the benefit of Norfolk artists. Each year for the last 15 years, hundreds of artists scattered across the county have opened up their studios, homes, garden sheds and outhouses to the public to create a unique and personal visual arts event.

The scheme gives the public a chance to meet artists in an informal setting, see and buy or commission artwork and discuss the techniques and processes used to create the work. It gives artists the chance to connect with their audience and in many cases the public can watch as they work in their studio setting.

Norfolk Open Studios, has established itself as one of the largest and most successful open studio schemes in the country. In 2009, an estimated 27,400 members of the public roamed the county to visit over 350 participating artists in 253 venues and an estimated total of £221,628 worth of art was sold.

| the garden

Although the garden consists of only two courtyards and a conservatory we have tried to create a flavour of going around the world. The front courtyard is mainly mediterranean with a twist of herbaceous whilst the side link and conservatory is more arid and the back courtyard tropical. It was only landscaped and planted in summer 2009 and then we had the coldest winter in 30 years (so you can blame us for that!). With much tender care we managed to get most of the garden through the winter much to our amazement only to be faced then with one of the coldest springs. However the last few weeks have been kinder and the plants are now responding well, although the garden is not as advanced as it should be for the time of year. However we are sure there is enough of interest for anyone visiting to enjoy. Below are a few photos taken last year but we hope this year it will be even better if the weather remains more temperate.

Please note there are numerous changes in levels which could be slippery if wet and some very spiky plants and a pool. Children must be accompanied at all times. We cannot be held responsible for any loss or injury whilst visiting the studio or garden.
