| my background

I have always had a keen interest in the arts, however, painting had to make way for my final choice of career and qualification in graphic design and web design. Although I enjoyed the technology of computers and the changing possibilities of design because of them, I started to feel that I also wanted to get back to ‘hands on’ creative work and be able to express myself without the confines of a clients brief.

In 1999 I was in the fortunate position of being able to go part-time from my employment and relocate to the Snowdonia National Park in Wales, where I was able to experiment with various styles and mediums to interpret the landscape around me.  Acrylics became my final choice of medium, eventually using the full range available (pastes, gels and pigments) due to their modernity and superb versatility, which appealed to my design background.  The final result of this experimentation has been these abstract, sculptural, contemporary paintings, some interpreting close detail whilst others a wider sense of landscape.

In late 2006 I suffered a detached retina in my right eye which required surgery.  It was decided that computer based design was no longer an option as a career and so the decision was made to relocate and paint full time. This relocation took place in early 2008 to a small village in West Raynham, Norfolk.

I now enjoy interpreting the North Norfolk Coast with its broad open skies and beautiful wildness as well as continuing to paint from the many inspirational
memories I have of living in Snowdonia.
