My background and why I chose to be an artist:

Born in Warwickshire in 1956, it was clear from an early age that I had a keen interest in the arts. Painting, however had to make way for my final choice of career and qualification in graphic design and then web design. Although I enjoyed the technology of computers and the changing possibilities of design because of them, I started to feel that I also wanted to get back to ‘hands on’ creative work and be able to express myself without the confines of a clients brief.

In 1999 I was in the fortunate position of being able to go part-time from my job and relocate to the Snowdonia National Park in Wales. I was then able to experiment with various styles, mixed media and acrylic, resulting in these unusual, abstract, contemporary paintings on this web site, some interpreting close detail whilst others a wider sense of landscape.

In late 2006 I suffered a detached retina in my right eye whilst discovering my left eye was about to tear as well. After surgery and various lazer treatments I started a long recovery (this accounting for the lack of activity on my 'listings' page for some periods). It was decided that computer based graphic design was no longer an option as a career and so the decision was made to relocate, set up an 'open studio' and paint full time. This relocation took place in early 2008 to a small village in West Raynham, Norfolk

I am now looking forward to interpreting the North Norfolk Coast where I now live with its broad open skies and beautiful wildness. As well as selling through galleries I am also hoping to use my 'open studio', which will be open all year by appointment to sell direct to interested buyers
